Dr. W.A. Shrader, Jr. - Santa Fe Center for Allergy and Environmental Medicine
The Santa Fe Center for Allergy and Environmental Medicine is a practice in Santa Fe, New Mexico, originally founded by W.A. Shrader, Jr., MD. Dr. Shrader is board-certified in Environmental Medicine, a fellow and past president of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), and Secretary of the Board of Governors of the American Board of Environmental Medicine. He developed Low Dose Allergen (LDA) immunotherapy in the United States and continues to teach it through the AAEM. Dr. Shrader has now retired from office practice, and his associate Dr. Forouz Jowkar has taken over his LDA practice at the same Santa Fe location. Dr. Jowkar is board-certified in Functional Medicine and has worked with Dr. Shrader and LDA for many years.
The practice is highly relevant to those dealing with chemical sensitivities, environmental illness, and complex allergic conditions. LDA immunotherapy, the practice’s central treatment, is described as capable of treating sensitivity to chemicals (including multiple chemical sensitivity), foods, pollens, molds, and dust, including conditions that other immunotherapy approaches cannot address. The practice sees patients with all types of allergy, nutritional conditions, and environmental symptoms related to home, school, or workplace exposures, including mold exposure. Additional conditions treated include autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis, eosinophilic esophagitis, and interstitial cystitis, as well as hormonal conditions including natural thyroid, adrenal, and bioidentical hormone support.
Services include LDA immunotherapy, IV nutrient therapy (including glutathione for detoxification from chemical and other exposures), nutritional counseling, and hormonal treatment. Telephone consultations are available for patients seeking information about their specific health issues, with an initial brief call at no charge. The practice does not participate with any insurance company, HMO, or PPO, but provides completed standard HCFA forms that patients may submit to their insurance for reimbursement.
