Sanctuary Functional Medicine

Sanctuary Functional Medicine

Sanctuary Functional Medicine is an integrative and functional medicine practice located in Franklin, Tennessee, serving the greater Nashville region. Founded and led by Dr. Eric Potter, MD, IFMCP, the clinic operates with a multidisciplinary clinical team that includes medical doctors (MD and DO), physician assistants (PA-C), nurse practitioners, nutritionists, and health coaches. The practice combines conventional medical care with holistic and functional modalities to support adults and children dealing with complex health issues.

The clinic specializes in multi-system chronic conditions and environmentally acquired illnesses. Primary areas of focus include mold toxicity, Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), Lyme disease and co-infections, autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, gut health conditions, hormone and thyroid imbalances, PANS/PANDAS, and pediatric neurodevelopmental conditions like autism and ADHD.

Sanctuary Functional Medicine aligns with non-toxic living principles through its focus on root-cause diagnosis, environmental toxicology, and systemic detoxification. Dr. Potter holds certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFMCP) and maintains affiliations with the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) and the International Society for Environmentally Acquired Illness (ISEAI), along with specialized training in mold illness protocols. The clinic was established after Dr. Potter navigated healthcare crises both as a physician and as a family member advocating for loved ones, shaping an approach focused on eliminating hidden environmental triggers, reducing body burden, and restoring immune function.

Care is delivered through Direct Primary Care memberships and structured multi-month programs (Intensive, Semi-Intensive, and Functional Wellness). Services include in-person clinic visits, remote telehealth consultations, advanced functional laboratory testing (such as mycotoxins, heavy metals, gut microbiome, and genetic markers), nutrition counseling, and limbic system coaching. Telehealth services are offered to patients residing in Tennessee as well as several surrounding states, including Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Ohio, and Indiana. Sanctuary Functional Medicine operates as a direct-pay clinic outside traditional health insurance networks to allow for extended appointment times, though prospective patients can schedule a preliminary call with the patient support team to evaluate program options.
